This course provides instruction on the collection of blood samples through venipuncture or micro techniques. Individuals in this program, while under the supervision of health care professionals, will be trained to properly verify patients or donor records, test drug levels in the blood, label and store blood samples for processing, analyzing blood cells and body fluids, performing patient interviews, and obtaining vital signs. Training will focus on patient care and safety, venipuncture, and proper site selection for optimum collection, labeling, transportation, and processing of laboratory specimens. Trainees will gain skills in obtaining blood samples as well as samples for special testing such as urine, fecal, and others from patients using a variety of standards and regulations. After the program, students are eligible to sit for the American Allied Health national certificate exam.
