The College of Health Services and Careers (CHSC) is a private, faith-based, and minority-focused allied health institution committed to educating students for careers in the healthcare professions. The College provides accessible, affordable, and high-quality education designed to assist students in achieving their academic, professional, and career goals.

The institution was founded in 2018 as B1 Training Center by Makeba White-Chanay, a nurse by profession who recognized the growing need for qualified healthcare professionals and sought to establish an affordable educational institution to help address the healthcare workforce shortage in the State of Mississippi. B1 Training Center initially offered training in Phlebotomy and Nursing Assistance (CNA). Mrs. White-Chanay served as the institution's first President.

In 2021, B1 Training Center changed its name to the Mississippi School of Health Services and Careers and expanded its academic offerings. The institution's initial expanded programs included Medical Billing and Coding, COVID-19 Training, and Community Health Worker Training. During this same year, the B1 Foundation was established to support the institution's mission by raising scholarship funds to assist students with their educational expenses. An Advisory Board was also established to provide institutional oversight and help ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines were followed.

Following the institutional transition in 2021, Mrs. Makeba White-Chanay moved into the role of Founder and Chairperson of the Board, while Dr. Marcus A. Chanay, a long-time higher education administrator, assumed the position of President. Under Dr. Chanay's leadership, the institution continued to expand its academic and workforce-development initiatives.

Since 2021, the College has expanded its academic offerings to include Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician, Limited License Radiology Technician, and Pharmacy Technician programs. The addition of these programs contributed to a 40 percent increase in enrollment and strengthened the institution's ability to prepare students for a broader range of healthcare professions.

The institution has also developed strategic partnerships to expand access to healthcare workforce training throughout Mississippi. These partnerships include collaboration with the Mississippi Department of Health to provide Community Health Worker training statewide and with the Mississippi Department of Corrections to provide training in CNA, Phlebotomy, EKG, and Medical Billing and Coding for individuals preparing for reentry into their communities and the workforce.

On January 1, 2024, the Mississippi School of Health Services and Careers transitioned to The College of Health Services and Careers. The name change reflected the institution's continued growth, expansion of its academic offerings, and its geographic expansion into Houston, Texas. As part of this expansion, the College broadened its program offerings to include Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, Certified Medical Manager, and Health Information Technology Certified Manager programs.

The College of Health Services and Careers is licensed through the Commission on Mississippi Proprietary School and College Registration, certified through the Mississippi Department of Health, and registered with the American Allied Health and Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM). The College's faculty members possess professional healthcare credentials, including Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) credentials and/or applicable national professional certifications. Faculty members are approved to teach their respective courses through the Commission on Mississippi Proprietary School and College Registration. Collectively, the College's faculty bring more than 100 years of healthcare and professional experience to the classroom.

After serving for five years as President of the College of Health Services and Careers, Dr. Marcus A. Chanay stepped down from the presidency to assume the position of Chief of Staff for the City of Jackson. Following this transition, Dr. Chanay assumed the role of Chairperson of the Board, providing continued institutional leadership and strategic oversight. Mrs. Makeba White-Chanay, the institution's Founder and former President, returned to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the College.

Today, the College of Health Services and Careers continues to build upon its founding mission of providing affordable, accessible, and high-quality allied health education. Through expanded academic programs, community partnerships, workforce-development initiatives, and experienced faculty, the College remains committed to preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies needed to pursue meaningful careers in the healthcare industry and to contribute to addressing the healthcare workforce needs of the communities it serves.
