Discover Our Mission
The College of Health Services and Careers is a private, faith based, and minority focused allied health school educating students for health care professions that provides accessible, affordable, and high-quality education. This assists students in accomplishing both their academic and professional goals. The school was founded in 2018 as B1 Training Center by Makeba White-Chanay, a nurse by profession who wanted to create an affordable school to assist in the health care shortage within the State of Mississippi. B1 Training Center initially started training students in Phlebotomy and Nursing Assistance (CNA). Mrs. White Chanay served as the first President. In 2021, B1 Training Center’s name was changed to the Mississippi School of Health Services and Careers and expanded its academic offerings. Those initial course offerings included Medical Billing and Coding, COVID-19 Training and Community Health Workers Training. B1 Foundation was also established in 2021 to assist the school in raising scholarship monies to assist students. An Advisory Board was also established to ensure policy and guidelines were followed by the school. With the name change, Mrs. White Chanay moved to the role of Founder/Chairperson of the Board and Dr. Marcus A. Chanay, a long-time higher education administrator became the President. Since 2021, the school has expanded its course offerings to include Medical Assistant (CMA), Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG), Limited License Radiology Technician and Pharmacy Technician. The school has seen an enrollment growth of 40% with the addition of the programs. The school also went into partnership with the Mississippi Department of Health to train Community Health Care Workers statewide and Mississippi Department of Corrections in offering classes in CNA, Phlebotomy, EKG, and Medical Billing and Coding for reentry persons. On January 1, 2024, Mississippi School of Health Services and Careers transitioned to The College of Health Services and Careers due to expanding its academic offerings to Houston, Texas and expanding the program offerings including Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, Certified Medical Manager, and Health Information Technology Certified Manager. The College of Health Services and Careers is licensed through the Commission on Mississippi Proprietary School and College Registration, certified through the Mississippi Department of Health, and registered with American Allied Health and Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM).
